In 1979, when AIM Consultants Limited, AIM Architects &
Engineering Consultants Limited, all subsidiaries of AIM
Group – kicked off operations in Lagos, their plans were
focused on designing structures and harnessing natural
resources in Nigeria.
The organization, headed by Amin Ibrahim Moussalli ,
carried out its stated plan well, so much so it became one
of two major integrated consultancy firms established in the
new Federal Capital Territory participating in its long-term
development in buildings and infrastructural projects.
Aiming to conquer new grounds, the group delved into the
broadcasting and communications industry by floated
Steam Broadcasting and Communications Limited in the
mid 90s.
After its creation, Chris Ubosi, who had worked with AIM
Group as a Quantity Surveyor, was moved to Steam
Broadcasting and communications as the Deputy Managing
Director while Amin Mousalli, the Group Managing Director
of AIM Group held the position of Managing Director.
Following this, Cool FM 96.9 FM was launched on October
1, 1998 with its office situated on Etim Iyang crescent,
Victoria Island, Lagos. The station’s creation brought on
talented OAPs including Olisa Adibua , Freeze and Dare Art
Alade who have all become household names in the
industry today.
Cool FM 96.9 FM became the toast of listeners in Lagos,
appealing to young people who wanted a more robust
platform with exciting content coupled with entertainment
on the go.
The employment of American born OAP, Dan
Foster in 2000 did not only shoot up the popularity of the
radio station; it quickly made Cool FM the hub for
entertainment activities.
Despite the exit of Chris Ubosi who quit his position to kick
off Megaelectrics Limited, which today owns Beat FM,
Classic FM and Naija FM , Cool FM has continued to grow in
leaps and bounds.
16 years after its creation and many years after the exit of
some of the pioneering OAPs, Cool FM is still standing
strong as one of the top rated radio stations in the country
as it is not listened to in 5 states in Nigeria while several
listen in via the internet.
